The Sandpiper at Shipwatch is located just an elevator ride away, making Kiawah’s West Beach easily accessible for a morning jog, an afternoon of fun in the sun or a stroll in the evening as dusk settles in.

Of course, there’s more to Kiawah than just the sand and surf.

Within a short walking distance you’ll find a golf course, tennis courts, shopping and restaurants – and historic downtown Charleston is only a 30-minute drive away.

Oceanfront With a Sense of Style

Recently renovated and professionally decorated with heavy custom drapery, hardwood floors, designer furniture and original artwork that ooze Southern charm, this villa has plentiful seating and places to mingle.

In the kitchen you’ll find granite countertops and ample cookware, though the dining room and living room are close enough to carry on a conversation.

Don’t be surprised if people sink into the comfortable living room furniture to catch a movie, or linger over breakfast at the intimate dining room table.
And, of course, we encourage you to kick back in a counter-height teak chair on one of the villa’s oceanfront decks with a cocktail in hand to enjoy the sounds and smells of beachfront living.

At night, retire to one of the rental's 2 bedrooms: a deluxe king-sized bedroom and another with 2 queen beds. All 3 beds have pillow-top mattresses, memory-foam toppers, Egyptian-cotton sheets and down-alternative pillows – oooh-la-la!

Outfitted in white and pale blue furnishings, these spacious bedrooms embody a sense of relaxation that – when combined with the sound of the surf just beyond the windows – is sure to lull you to sleep. Both have balconies overlooking palmetto trees with the ocean beyond as well as private bathrooms and 26-inch flat panel televisions (just in case you need a break from the landscape).

The Sandpiper also has free, shared laundry facilities located just across the hall – and we provide the laundry detergent.

The Sandpiper at Shipwatch is a popular vacation villa and only available as a Sunday-through-Sunday rental in the summer. If your preferred dates are already filled, consider checking out the 2-bedroom Treetops or one-bedroom Vista, 2 other of our properties available in the Shipwatch complex.

This property has 1 King(s), 2 Queen(s).

Unbelievable Rental Experience by J. Howard 26 Feb 2017
"Flawless process - beautiful condo - exquisitely decorated, comfortable, everything we needed! If you rent in Kiawah - these are the folks you need."
Wonderful Villa by M. Shafer 22 Nov 2016
"What a lovely villa! The location was fantastic, complete with stunning ocean views. Access to the beach was simply a stroll down the boardwalk. The decor was lovely, that rivals many 5-star hotels. What truly sets this villa apart were all the personal touches from fresh cut flowers to ziplock bags... everything was included which was so nice! We can't wait for our next visit!"
Comfortable, beautiful, well-equipped place on Kiawah Island with ocean views! Heavenly! by D. Muse 11 Sep 2016
A dear friend and I hadn't seen each other in years and wanted a week to relax and catch up. This Kiawah Island property was perfect! The beach is just yards away. If you open the balcony doors, the sound of the waves will lure you down to the shore. The beach is wide, perfect for sunning, surf play, shell collecting, biking, walking, and jogging. The somewhat rustic exterior of the building blends in nicely with the natural environment but doesn't do justice to the quality, beauty and comfort of the apartment. The online photos reflect the interior decor accurately and it is a clean, light-filled, tastefully decorated two bedroom, two bath apartment. It is quiet at night with great beds and bedding. There are TVs throughout and it has up-to-date entertainment options for DVDs, iPods, and fast dependable WiFi for music, movies, and online life. Shawn and Jeanette of Kiawah Island Getaways were very easy to do business with and they have thought of practically everything. There's a stock of board games if you encounter a rainy day. There are flashlights for nighttime beach walks. The kitchen is spotless and well stocked and the Harris Teeter grocery at Freshfields Village, less than 3 miles away has everything, including a gourmet selection of cheeses, wines, and local produce. There are several local fresh seafood and produce markets or stands within a 10-mile radius. For a lazy morning, there's coffee and great grits, pancakes, waffles right across the parking lot at the Southern Kitchen. The golf courses, restaurants and luxurious Sanctuary (a must for a sunset drink and safe alligator watching!) at Kiawah Island are readily accessible from the apartment. Arrangements can be made through the hosts for bicycles, beach chairs, umbrellas, even a private chef! It's an easy drive to Charleston and Beaufort for remarkable history tours, architectural delights and great restaurants, such as the elegant Hall's Chophouse in Charleston, Wren in Beaufort, or the casual but delicious fare at Roadside Seafood on Folly Road. And there's the mysterious Angel Oak, which certainly gets added to the list of everyone's most memorable trees of a lifetime. I would definitely recommend this property to others. Everyone was super friendly. I look forward to a future visit. This property was a wonderful backdrop for us friends to reminisce about the past and build new memories of drives down Sea Island roadways shaded by timeless oaks dripping with Spanish moss.
Spoiled at the Sandpiper by A. Leibtag 24 Jul 2016
"I feel spoiled now because it's going to be hard to find something as good as this. We stayed in The Sandpiper at Shipwatch and it was gorgeous and in the perfect location. It's really as the pictures show. I cannot believe how impeccably clean it was. Jeanette and Shawn really want you to feel like it's your home away from home--the kitchen was stocked right down to the last detail like an apple corer. They have this big white binder of things to do in Kiawah and Charleston and they should know--they've lived there for 30 years. We wanted a relaxing, fun, low-key family vacation and we got it!"
Just a few steps to the beach!!! by Al Croydon 24 Jul 2016
Convenient and quick access to the beach made this cozy and clean 2 bedroom ideal for our family trip with a little one. We adored the view and appreciated the well equipped kitchen. Ease of access to the bike path was an additional plus. Well managed by a group that quickly responded to all our silly questions. We will certainly be back to this spot!
The Perfect Family Vacation! by M. Kennedy 19 Jun 2016
"This is our third trip to Kiawah with Kiawah Island Getaways. Kiawah is our family's favorite vacation spot! This time we stayed at "The Sandpiper at Shipwatch" and it was absolutely perfect! There were no details left out. The decor was new, fresh, warm, and inviting. With clean, modern furniture and beach views from every room, we quickly found ourselves able to feel right at home. We had everything we needed. It was exactly the way I had pictured it from the website. There was a notebook in the condo that gave all sorts of helpful information from places to eat, sights to see, and local island fun. The bedrooms each had incredible comfortable beds and a balcony that overlooked the ocean. A bathroom was next to each room and allowed us to have privacy in the open concept layout. Our condo was the perfect location. It was right off the main road with gorgeous ocean front views.

What a pleasure it was to spend our week in such an incredible condo and to cherish family memories both on and off the beach. Our days were spent sitting on the beach, taking in the views, and hiding from the stress of every day life. Our afternoons were spent biking along the designated bike paths and into the market for a refreshing latte or an ice cream.

One morning, when the tide was low and the wind was on our side, we managed to bike to the end of the island to see spectacular views and find a variety of seashells! We also visited a boating market where we purchased shrimp straight off the boats! Meals were spent both in and out of the condo, and both equaled up to each other. Overall, our week could not have gone any better, and we look forward to visiting in the near future."
A perfect beach vacation get away! by E. Miller 29 May 2016
"The condominium was sparkling clean , beautifully decorated and well appointed. We loved the balconies and ocean views! Shawn and Jeanette communicated promptly and told us everything we needed to know for a smooth checkin and stress free vacation. Kiawah Island was gorgeous ! The beach is long and wide and the water is perfect for swimming and playing in the waves. We saw so much wildlife and had fun riding on the bike paths too! We can't wait to return, and highly recommend this property and Kiawah Island Getaways! "
Classy (yet) Comfortable Coastal Getaway at Kiawah Island! by L. Williams 26 May 2016
"100% satisfied with the service and immaculate accommodations provided by the Lawsons. Literally a dream come true to return to Kiawah after 30 years and get to enjoy their gorgeous villa as much as the beautiful scenery from every window and balcony. 5 stars are just not enough! "
Highly recommend!! by K. Bosnik 18 Oct 2015
"The Sandpiper was perfect for our getaway. The kitchen had everything you could need for cooking and the decor beautiful. It was immaculate as well. Ocean views, bike riding, golf, beach walking, trips to Charleston all added up to a terrific vacation. You can't beat Kiawah if you are looking for a trip to the beach. Thanks so much Shawn and Jeanette!"
Still recovering from nostalgia for the wonderful holiday enjoyed here while visiting Kiawah Island and Charleston. by A. Olanow 14 Aug 2015
“Still recovering from nostalgia for the wonderful holiday enjoyed here while visiting Kiawah Island and Charleston. First things first, the condo was sparkling clean. I don’t know if that’s important to all travelers but it’s always been a priority for us. Everything from the bedrooms to the bathrooms to the kitchen was well attended and better yet, well stocked. The very courteous owners not left any small detail ignored and have gone out of their way to stock the unit with everything you’d have at home. There’s pots, coffeemakers (K-cup and drip), cooking supplies (pepper, olive oil, salt, etc), lots of glass and plastic dishware and cups and mugs, cutlery and a nice knife block, plastic bags, paper towels, etc. Further, the owners didn’t skimp on anything: the beds had really outstanding sheets (my wife constantly reminds me to find out where they got them so we can get them also); the towels in all bathrooms are thick and comfortable; and there’s soap and shampoo in case you forgot them at home. Indeed, they even had beach towels for guests. Way too considerate. If there was one issue, it was the wifi: it was inconsistent and not the fastest. Fortunately, we didn’t spend too much time on computers/tablets inside and the 4G wireless signal on our mobile phones picked up the slack. We just chalked it down to the cable provider’s fault. As for the unit, it was a very comfortable 2 bedroom (1 king and 2 queens), 2 bath, kitchen, dining room and living room with 2 outdoor terraces overlooking the ocean. We arranged with the owners to rent 2 bicycles (which we used almost daily), boogie boards, some beach chairs and an umbrella. If we ever had any issues (just one), they responded immediately and resolved it shortly thereafter. All in all, it was an excellent holiday and I’m already planning to come back and hopefully stay in the same condo (if they have availability). So pleased to interact with people who take so much pride in what they do!”
My Response
“Thanks so much for the fabulous review – we appreciate your taking the time to write comments. Just as aside – the Shipwatch Wifi is being phased out and we have installed a new network which you may not have noticed since I had it listed as an alternative Wifi source. I have since removed the info for the Shipwatch Wifi and all our guests are directed to the new network. It is all good now – yea!!!”
Kiawah Weekend Getaway by J. Williams 01 Jul 2015
"Kiawah Weekend Getaway
Prior to this visit, I had only stayed at the Sanctuary in Kiawah. I was nervous about staying in a different venue, but we could not have been MORE pleased with our accommodations. The property managers were so helpful and quick to respond to my every question, both before and during my stay. The condo was IMMACULATE. Clean, beautiful, very well appointed. We arrived to lovely lighting and music and the weekend just got better from there. The linens, towels and bedding were top of the line, the location was central to everything and the view of the ocean, just spectacular. I would stay here again. I would recommend it to friends. I would buy the unit and make this my permanent vacation home! [The only suggestion I have is whether the condo association could provide luggage carts (like in hotels) so we would not have to make so many trips to the car and back to unload and load. Other than that, this place was perfection!]”
The Perfect Vacation Spot!! by B. Edgar 24 May 2015
"The Perfect Vacation Spot!!
This was our first time to Kiawah and we fell in love with the island while staying at this beautiful condo. The views are stunning. Everything was immaculate. It truly felt like we were staying at a 5 star hotel. The Management team was available anytime we had a question. We also loved the location and being so close to the Straw Market. We are already planning our next trip back!"
Wonderful views and location. by R. Kelley 01 Nov 2014
"Wonderful views and location. Fully equipped, very attentive management team. Would rent again. Nice to have one bedroom to sleep four, and additional master. Only negative no laundry in unit, but common laundry very close to unit."
A beautiful, clean villa with sweeping ocean views. by J. Snyder 21 Sep 2014
"A beautiful, clean villa with sweeping ocean views. We had a wonderful time in "Sandpiper" at Shipwatch. We loved the condo, the view!, the decorations and furnishings, and how clean it was. It is a beautiful villa. It was the most well-equipped rental, with plenty of towels and pillows and blankets, soap, toilet paper, and trash bags. Those are things that usually aren't provided, and things you usually forget to bring. So it was nice to have that readily available. This was definitely the BEST place we have stayed in from ANY rental on vrbo.com. (We have probably rented about 10 times from this site at several different beaches across the southeast.) The Best! We would definitely rent from Kiawah Island Getaways again when we return to Kiawah. "
The property was exceptional from arrival to departure. by E. Smith 07 Dec 2012
"The property was exceptional from arrival to departure. The welcome was gracious and easy, the beds dreamy, the view perfect and the overall stay relaxing! Every amenity was thought of and taken care of, the location perfect and the overall experience delightful! We look forward to returning!"
I am originally from the Carolina's but hadn't ever been to Kiawah. by M. Kaplan 29 Jul 2012
"I am originally from the Carolina's but hadn't ever been to Kiawah. I loved it. The property was so well equipped and all the necessary amenities were there. Great kitchen, lovely bedroom furnishings and a super view to the ocean. A lot of thought went into the over all furnishings for this 2 BR condo. The owners did a wonderful job of providing little extras like towels for the beach or a cooler, or games for their guests."
