Closest Airport to Kiawah Island

The closest airport to Kiawah Island is Charleston International Airport (CHS), located approximately 45 minutes from the island, depending on traffic.

There are two primary transportation options for getting to and from Kiawah Island.

Transportation Option 1: Rent a Car

Renting a car is the most convenient way to reach Kiawah Island. A rental vehicle gives you full flexibility during your stay and makes it easy to explore nearby destinations, including Charleston and Johns Island.

This option is especially recommended if you plan to grocery shop, dine off-island, or explore beyond the resort areas.

Transportation Option 2: Rideshare to Kiawah and Arrange a Return Service

You may also use a rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft to travel from the airport to Kiawah Island. Rideshare pricing can vary, so it’s a good idea to check both apps before booking.

Please note that rideshare services and public transportation are not available on Kiawah Island itself. For your return trip to the airport, guests typically arrange a private car service in advance.

Getting Around Kiawah Island Without a Car

Kiawah Island is very pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly. With more than 10 miles of bikeable beach and 30 miles of paved paths, biking is one of the most popular ways to get around the island.

Guests staying with us may book bike rentals directly through us as part of their stay, making it easy to explore without a vehicle. Biking also allows access to scenic areas such as Eagle Point, which is located beyond the island’s second gate.

Where to Buy Groceries

The primary grocery store serving Kiawah Island is Harris Teeter at Freshfields Village, located near the island entrance. Many guests choose to stop here on their way in to stock up on groceries.

If you are arriving by rideshare, you may ask your driver to make a brief stop at Freshfields before continuing to the island.
