Kiawah Island Weekend Itinerary
Updated for 2026
Planning a short getaway and wondering how to spend a perfect weekend on Kiawah Island? This itinerary is designed for visitors who want to experience the best of the Lowcountry without overpacking their schedule.
Kiawah is not about rushing from place to place. It is about nature, space, and ease. With bikeable trails, quiet beaches, and scenic marsh views, even a weekend can feel restorative if you focus on the right activities.
Day One: Explore Kiawah by Bike
Overview
Biking is one of the best ways to experience Kiawah Island. The island offers more than 30 miles of paved bike paths through maritime forest and marsh, plus over 10 miles of rideable beach at low tide. Note: Electric bikes are not permitted on the island.
If you are staying with us, we can arrange bikes in advance so they are ready when you arrive.
Morning: History and Marsh Views
Shoolbred Cemetery
Located in the Rhett’s Bluff area, this small historic cemetery offers a quiet look into Kiawah’s early history and makes an easy first stop along the bike path.
Marsh Island Tower
A short detour off Governor’s Drive leads to elevated views over the Kiawah River and surrounding marshland. Keep an eye out for birds and wildlife.
Eagle Point Landing
A peaceful dock with wide marsh views and, on clear days, distant views of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Lunch: Ocean Course Area
Ryder Cup Bar
Located at the Ocean Course Clubhouse, this relaxed lunch spot offers scenic views and a casual atmosphere. Outdoor seating is ideal when weather allows.
Afternoon: Beach Ride
After lunch, access the beach at Boardwalk 40 and ride along the shoreline during low tide. This stretch is a guest favorite and one of the most memorable ways to see Kiawah.
Evening: Shops and Dinner
Freshfields Village
Browse local shops or enjoy a casual stroll before dinner.
Dinner at Hege’s
A long-standing local favorite for classic French cuisine. Reservations are recommended.
Day Two: Angel Oak and Charleston
Morning: Angel Oak Tree
Start the day with a short drive to visit the iconic Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island.
Estimated to be more than 400 years old, this massive live oak is one of the Lowcountry’s most photographed natural landmarks. Arrive early for cooler temperatures and fewer visitors. Plan for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Late Morning to Afternoon: Historic Charleston
From Angel Oak, continue on to Charleston, which is roughly another 30-minutes away, depending on the time of day.
Rather than trying to see everything, focus on a few highlights:
- Walk through the Historic District and nearby side streets
- Browse the Charleston City Market
- Stroll along Rainbow Row and the Battery
- Enjoy lunch near East Bay or Market Street – one of our favorites is Hyman’s or Fleet Landing.
Charleston is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Choose one or two areas and leave the rest for another visit.
Evening: Return to Kiawah
Head back to Kiawah Island in the late afternoon. After a busier day, many visitors appreciate ending the weekend with a quiet evening close to the beach, whether that means dining on the island or relaxing at their rental.
