House Rules

  • If you’re staying in a house or cottage: Bikes and beach gear must be stored in a garage or enclosure. They cannot be stored where they can be seen from the street.
  • If you’re staying in a villa: Beach gear cannot be stored where visible from the parking lot or street. These items must be stored in an enclosure or storage locker. Bikes are to be stored in provided bike racks.
  • Beach towels and other items cannot be hung from the outside railings.
  • Parking on the grass or landscaped areas is prohibited. Overnight parking must be off-street.
  • All vehicles must be parked in a garage, in the driveway or in the parking lot. Do not park on the street or block a driveway.

Beach Rules

  • Do not store beach equipment overnight on the beach. Take all items with you when you leave the beach (chairs, coolers, trash).
  • Fill in any large holes that you may have dug in the sand.
  • No glass, metal shovels, plastic carryout bags, plastic straws, styrofoam, balloons or drones are allowed on the beach. We provide plastic wine glasses and plastic beer mugs in each property.
  • Stay off the dunes and use public boardwalks.
  • No open fires or fireworks.

Bike Riding Rules

  • Stay off the main Kiawah parkway and other primary roads.
  • There are leisure trails that run along these that should be used instead.
  • Stay off the golf cart paths. Golf cart paths are only used by golfers. Note: Occasionally the leisure path and golf course path are one in the same and here bikes are welcome.
  • When others are coming toward you on the leisure trail, keep to the right. If you are passing others from behind, voice your approach, “Passing on your left!”, or ring a bicycle bell, and pass on the left.
  • E-bikes and other motorized vehicles (skateboards, scooters, etc.) are not permitted on trails.
  • Observe all stop signs and obey all SC laws.
  • Utilize reflectors and a light on bicycles after dark. Reflective or light-colored clothing after dark is recommended.
  • On boardwalks, walk with your bicycle. Do not ride on boardwalks.

Vehicle Rules

  • Private motorcycles, mopeds, Segways, motorized scooters, motorized bicycles, and similar motorized vehicles are prohibited on Kiawah Island. For the most up-to-date information on vehicle restrictions, please refer to the official Kiawah Island Rules and Regulations.

Pool Access

  • Access to the Night Heron Park pool is only available for Kiawah Golf Resort guests.
  • Access to the Sanctuary Hotel pool is only available for hotel guests (poolside restaurant and bar is fine).
  • Access to the Sandcastle pool and restaurant is only available for owners.

Wildlife Rules

  • Do not feed the deer or other wildlife.
  • Alligators may be present in ponds and lagoons – never feed, harass, or approach alligators.
  • Never swim in or stand near the edge of these areas.

Loggerhead Turtle Egg Season Rules (May through October)

  • Turtles use the moonlight to find their way to the ocean. Artificial light disorients sea turtles.
  • Restrict artificial light from shining on the beach.
  • Oceanfront properties: After dark, please pull curtains closed and turn off exterior lights. If curtains are not available, turn off as many lights as possible.
  • Only use red lights when walking on the beach at night. Flashlights with red lenses are provided in a kitchen drawer in each KIG property.
  • Holes dug on the beach can be big hurdles for turtles. When you leave the beach take all of your belongings with you (chairs, coolers, trash) and fill in any holes you may have dug on the beach.
  • Never approach sea turtles, hatchlings, or nests.
  • Never harass, touch or disturb hatchlings or eggs.
